WLC: Body Language: How It Communicates Our Thoughts (Good and Bad!)

Whether we realize it or not, our bodies are constantly communicating. From the tilt of our head to the crossing of our arms, our nonverbal signals can express confidence, empathy, discomfort, or even disagreement—often before we say a single word. In this fun and practical session, M.J. Clark draws from her leadership coaching and communication expertise to reveal how body language shapes the way we’re perceived by others. Participants will explore the difference between open and closed posture, recognize “danger cues” that can unintentionally create distance, and learn how to use positive body language to build trust, credibility, and connection. Using real-life examples and audience interaction, M.J. will show how small changes in expression and stance can make a big difference in how we lead, influence, and relate to others.

Vice President, Integrated Leadership SystemsAs vice president of Integrated Leadership Systems, where she’s worked since 2006, M.J. Clark helps company leaders plan for ownership and management succession and foster more authentic communication in the workplace. She helps executives better manage stress, become more assertive, develop emotional intelligence and fine-tune leadership and management skills. ILS is based in Columbus, Ohio, and has provided services for hundreds of nationally recognized companies all over North America. M.J. has also spoken locally at Ohio University’s Celebrate Women Conference, the Conway Family Business Center, Women for Economic and Leadership Development, The Superior Group’s Women Empowered Group, and the National Association of Women in Construction.
M.J. has a master's degree in organizational communication from The Ohio State University and a bachelor’s degree in public relations from Ohio University. She is the author of three leadership books.
