The public is invited to discover the opportunities available in Pickerington Schools, as well as look at what lies ahead for the district at the 2017 State of the Schools and Celebration of Excellence Expo. The evening’s presentation will include a detailed overview of the permanent improvements issue that has been placed on the May 2 ballot.
The event will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, January 30, at the Pickerington High School North Performing Arts Center.
“Education is about opportunity,” said Superintendent Valerie Browning-Thompson. “The opportunity to learn. To grow. To succeed. It’s about the opportunity to make a difference in the world. With all the innovations and improvements we’ve made in Pickerington Schools in the past few years, as well as all the exciting things we have planned for the future, there is no more fitting theme than ‘opportunity’ for the 2017 State of the Schools and Celebration of Excellence Expo.”
The evening will begin at 6:30 p.m. with the third annual Celebration of Excellence Expo and community networking opportunity in PAC lobby. Every school in the district will exhibit innovative and exciting programs from their buildings. Displays will range from student leadership programs to arts initiatives, from science and technology to after-school programs.
At 7:15 p.m., Superintendent Valerie Browning-Thompson, Treasurer Ryan Jenkins, and Business Manager Vince Utterback will present the 2017 State of the Schools, a 60-minute presentation covering subjects ranging from the district’s financial outlook to academic initiatives and plans for the future. The presentation also will include an overview of the 3-mill permanent improvements levy that has been placed on the May 2 ballot.
A question-and-answer session will follow the address.
The presentation will open and close with musical performances by the Pickerington High School Central Choir and Pickerington High School North Jazz Band.
