Job description:
Our Direct Support Professional's are responsible for providing direct support and assistance to individuals with mental, intellectual, developmental, and physical disabilities.
Qualifications
Is at least 18 years of age
- Is able to read, write, and understand English
- Holds a high school diploma or GED
- Preferably has six months of experience in human services (Not required)
- Undergoes background investigations
Primary Duties
- Is knowledgeable in the individual service plan for each individual served prior to serving the individual
- Implements services in accordance with the individual service plan and in a person-centered manner
- Provides assistance to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a community-based setting
- Provides assistance with daily activities such as meal preparation and planning, medication administration, and personal care
- Facilitate community involvement by accompanying individuals on outings in the community or providing transportation to work or other activities
- Ensure the safety and well-being of the persons served
- Ensure the rights and dignity of the persons served
- Present the agency in an appropriate, accurate, and positive manner
- Act as a role model for the persons served
- Ensure timely and accurate documentation necessary for reporting the activities of persons served
- Assist other staff when required or requested
- Act professionally and responsibly
- Present a positive image in the community to families, local businesses, and other social service organizations
- Utilize good judgment regarding decision-making relevant to the care and assistance of persons served
- Respect co-workers and demonstrate commitment to Positive Culture
- Take all reasonable steps to prevent major unusual incidents and unusual incidents
Essential Skills
· Dependable, adaptable, and flexible
· Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, trainings, and memos
· Ability to regularly lift up to 25-50 pounds
· Computer skills for documentation
Environment
While performing the duties of this job the employee will be required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers, reach with hands and arms. This position may be required to stoop, kneel, and crouch as it relates to assisting the client. This position will be regularly exposed to the home lives of the people we serve and their families
