    BACKGROUND

    The Pickerington LEADS Program was created to develop strong, local leadership.  The Pickerington Area Chamber of Commerce believes it is the community’s responsibility to identify and to develop a diverse group of civic leaders to serve this community’s future needs.

    PROGRAM FORMAT

    Pickerington LEADS Program is a blended curriculum of general leadership skills, guest speakers and hands on practical experience.  Sessions have been designed with the following objectives in mind:

    • Identifying and understanding your leadership strengths

    • Understanding and implementing team development

    • Demonstrating customer driven excellence

    • Understanding the challenges of changing an organization and develop strategies to succeed

    • Demonstrating the value of being agile in business and focus on the future

    • Discussing the importance of social responsibility

    • Analyzing the characteristics of visionary leadership

     
    Graduates of this program will gain expertise in:
     

    • Personality and Leadership Styles

    • Time Management and Organizational Skills

    • Local Government Roles and Responsibilities

    • Communications

    • Public Speaking

    • Different Leadership perspectives (managing for innovation, systems perspective, managing by fact and servant leadership

    Participants will have the opportunity to meet with local civic leaders throughout the program and gain exposure to various views on effective community leadership while broadening their base of information about the community and how it operates.

    PARTICIPANTS

    The Pickerington LEADS Program seeks individuals with leadership talent or potential, and those who have shown or have an interest in community service.  LEADS graduates have demonstrated increased leadership responsibilities both within their companies and their communities.  They have developed a broad network in the community and established lifelong personal and professional relationships.

    MEETING DATES FOR CLASS

    Meetings are held at various locations, from 8:00 a.m. until noon on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month.  Classes begin in February and conclude in May, with a public graduation.

    TUITION

    The all-inclusive tuition for the Pickerington LEADS Program is $300.00.  A $50 deposit is due when submitting the completed application.  

    Applicants not selected for this year’s class will receive a full refund of deposits made. 

    SUCCESSFUL COMMUNITY PROJECT RESULTS:

    • Pickerington designated “Violet Capital of Ohio”

    • Research and creation of Bylaws and the Board of Trustees of the Pickerington Violet Festival

    • Built home for local elderly woman after her original home was condemned

    • Safety signage campaign – create awareness of need for reflective house numbers

    • Scholarship fund established for graduating Pickerington High School Seniors

    • Senior Center project to facilitate delivery of food and medicine to local area seniors

    • Community Bulletin Board

    • Pisgah Cemetery Beautification Project

    • LEADS P.L.A.N. Alumni Group

    • LEADS Park Design

    • LEADS Play-A-Palooza 

    • LEADS Celebration of City Bicentennial
